In 2014, the City of Parma launched its Sustainable Energy and Climate Action plan (SEAP) aiming at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20% in 2020. The interventions focused on building renovation, public light refurbishment and sustainable mobility with the involvement of both private and public sector. In June 2021, the City of Parma approved the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) with the target of reducing emissions between 46% and 58% by 2030.

The local stakeholder engagement process has contributed to create a permanent, local networks that includes public and private entities, research institutions, startups and local associations operating in the city. Parma is one of the cities that provides the KINETIC demo sites project. Therefore, the Municipality of Parma will have the same attributions as the other cities that bring demo sites within the project. These entities gave their own contribution also in the context of Parma’s application to European Green Capital Award 2022.
